Milliner's Head with Bonnet
French, c. 1820; carved wood milliner's head with original linen bonnet. This incredibly rare object is made even more rare by the inclusion of the original hand stitched linen bonnet. Incised facial features, and details such as the suggestion of diamond shaped earrings, a choker necklace, and a bodice with scalloped trim.
The head is made of two pieces of wood; the head itself and the heart shaped bun. The carver did a wonderful job of working with the natural grain of the wood to lend fullness to the face and her "beauty mark".
